For those members who operate a furnace with a conventional taphole and runner, when do you perform runner refractory maintenance during the heat? Do you delay the furnace to do this work or is your procedure to do it with the power on?

We’re looking for a lab, not affiliated with a refractory supplier, that can perform chemical and microstructural analysis post-mortem on refractory materials. Ideally they’d have good failure analysis capacity too. Anyone have a reference to share??
