EAF cable twist direction

Our power cables are left-hand-lay.  Standing at the bearing, the roof swings out to the right, so left-hand-lay cables tighten up.  Engineering wants to try right-hand-lay cables that would loosen the wrap when swinging out instead of tightening.  I have no clue which is better or worse for cable life!  Any thoughts?
